December 26, 2012: Carey Sweet: INSIDE SCOOP SF: With so much rain in the North Bay this past week, even the mushrooms are waving little white flags. Still, it’s prime season for fungi, who love the dark, dank conditions and flourish up and down the Sonoma and Mendocino coasts.
It’s also the season for foragers, who flock to the forests in search of their own ravioli stuffing and risotto add-ins. And why not – in the North Coast area, some 3,000 types of fungi thrive in season from September through May.
